Set up your design surfaces
Decide, per surface, what your customers can do — design freely, fill in fields, or ship it fixed. Here's how each case works.
The three surface modes
Design freely
Customers add their own text, images and shapes, or start from a blank canvas. Best for a fully personalizable side.
Fill in only
Customers only fill the fields you placed (name, date …) — they can't add or rearrange anything. The fastest, foolproof path.
Fixed
The surface ships exactly as you set it. Customers can't change it — great for a logo side or the back of a product.
Where to set it
Open your product → Product → Shape & surfaces. Each surface has a Design freely / Fill in only / Fixed switch. (Single-surface products are ‘free’ by default.)
Fill-in fields
In the design builder, give a text, image or QR element the ‘Fill in’ role (+ Add to form). Mark it Required (customer must fill it, can't check out empty) or Optional (may leave it empty — it just won't show). A fill field always stays — if you want customers to move or delete an element, give it the ‘Free’ role instead.
Example: a 6-sided cube
Set Top = Design freely, Front = Fill in only (with a name field), and Bottom/Back/Left/Right = Fixed. Customers then design the top, fill the front, and the rest ships as you made it — all in one product.
FAQ
A Required fill field must be filled and can't be deleted — it's a content slot. A Free element can be moved, resized and deleted by the customer. Pick ‘Fill in’ for slots, ‘Free’ for full freedom.
Fill-in means ‘only fill the fields I placed’ — adding or starting blank would defeat that. Use ‘Design freely’ if you want the blank canvas.
Yes. Each surface is independent — free, fill-in and fixed can all live on the same product (see the cube example).
No. Without a mode set, a designable surface stays ‘free’ (exactly as before) and a non-designable one is ‘fixed’. Nothing changes until you choose.
